WORKING GROUP Ethics and Disposal

To have input into the ongoing revision of Statutes and Code of Ethics being conducted by ICOM, particularly (but not only) in those areas identified as being especially prevalent in, and relevant to, university museums and collections; and to produce guidelines on matters concerning university museums and collections after reviewing the relevant policies of different institutions.
Established 2001.
Dissolved 2005.

Aldona Jonaitis, USA; in collaboration with Marta C. Lourenço, Portugal.

2005, the Chair of the “Ethics” Group, Aldona Jonaitis, proposed to dissolve the Ethics Committee: “The Committee was established in large part to contribute to the revised ICOM Code of Ethics. That immediate mission has been accomplished. Should an ethical issue arise, the Board could assemble an Ethics task force to address it. Such a task force would include members from the current Ethics Committee, specifically Marta C. Lourenço, Steven de Clercq, and Aldona Jonaitis.”

WORKING GROUP Research & Development

To create and maintain a network of information exchange for researchers/students concentrating on issues related to university museums and collections. The network will promote and active, two-way exchange between university museum and collections research community and UMAC members, offering reciprocal advice and insight.
The UMAC Research Development was initiated during the 2005 conference in Uppsala and officially recognised during the 2006 UMAC conference in Mexico City. In 2009 the former Research Development Group has been changed in an ordinary Working Group.
