10th German Conference of University Collections

7th Annual Meeting of the German Society for University Collections

Mainz University, Germany

During the 18th century university collections developed as “central meeting places” (Dominik Collet) and until now they don’t build enclosed rooms but are gathering around people as well as objects and furthermore have the function of a “contact zone” (James Clifford). Throughout the complex ways of their provenance, their changing uses and their connections to different protagonists they represent junctions of extended networks.

This year’s Conference, organized by  Mainz University in cooperation with the  German Society for University Collections and addressed to curators of university and museum collections and scientists working with objects, focusses on the networks of collections and the different perspectives on their objects. It will be discussed which potential follows from that for the cooperation with other disciplines, with partners within and out of universities, on regional, national and international level.

Note: the Conference language is German.
